Eye On The Seagulls lifts the European Cup

When the school I coach football at said that the Champions League trophy would be visiting the day before the final and would I like a photo with it, I ran home and came back with my shirt on before the sentence was finished. I know it’s all a corporate marketing ploy, but it was an irresistible opportunity for a great photo op.

Although I was asked not to hold it arms outstretched a la Emlyn Hughes, it still felt pretty good to hold.

It does make you dream though. How far away are clubs from getting their hands on this trophy now? In 1977, Nottingham Forest were a second division team. Three years later they had won the thing, not once but twice. Surely it could never happen again… or could they…
