Point blank saves and the class of Vicente
Brighton 1 : 1 Blackburn
A Vicente penalty earned Brighton a draw in a game they clearly should have won. A hatful of chances, many of which flew straight at the Rover’s keeper, went begging as Vicente could have claimed a hatful of assists.
The evening was marred by a terrible injury to Will Hoskins late in the first half, which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Hammond was particularly unlucky as he hit the keeper from point blank range with two headers both of which we have flown in on on another day.
Leo Ulloa tried an audacious backheel finish that also went straight to Kean when it could have gone anywhere. Leo had a solid game and went close with a few. I think as soon as he gets to full match sharpness, the goals will flow.
In the closing stages, a Lua Lua screamer flew just the wrong side of the post. But it was the sheer class of Vicente Rodriguez that made this a very special evening. His ability to ghost past players and retain the ball despite being surrounded by the entire Blackburn team, including some backroom staff, was stirring stuff. Has there ever been a player of such class to don the stripes?
The draw leaves us 4 points adrift of the playoffs thanks to ‘boro remembering how to win.
Bring on Cardiff!
